SAND BAR FARM
KIKO GOATS

Our Herd

Our Herd

We
have traveled many miles and studied many breeding programs to assemble our current brood does and herd sires.  Our current herd sires can be viewed on our bucks  page.  We have comfortably settled in with two primary breeds; Kiko and Savanna Goats.  We use 100% New Zealand Kiko herd sires.  Our doe herd is both Kiko and Savanna.  We have purebred and percentage Kiko and Savanna does.  Our percentage does carry varying degrees of Spanish and Boer goat genetics.  The result of our breeding program is a fast growing, high grading, selection one meat goat kid.

While kid production is our number one focus, we must keep adult does and bucks around all year.  This means caring for, feeding, breeding, and just simply dealing with over 140 goats on a daily basis.  To help us make sound breeding decisions, and reduce our workload, we keep detailed on-farm performance records.  We record and evaluate FAMACHA scores, hoof trimming, pounds of kids weaned per breeding, and farm index scoring.  In addition, our herd sires must have active libidos and outstanding body conformations.  Does must kid unassisted, average 1.8 kids per litter weaned over a two year period and maintain high tight udders.
